On June 26, 2013, the U.S. notified the WTO’s Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) of an amendment to color additives regulations regarding the use of mica-based pearlescent pigments in certain distilled spirits. The amendment was first announced by the U.S. FDA and published in the Federal Register on June 12, 2013. A notification was published by the WTO’s Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) on June 14, 2013.

The rule will take effect on July 15, 2013. The final date for comments on this WTO Notification is July 12, 2013. The United States is not currently included in the International Food Additive Database.
