Bulgaria-based wine producer Domaine Boyar has entered into the growing Asian markets and plans to expand business in the region.

The winery produces nine million bottles of wine per year and exports around 80% of them to countries like England, Russia and other European countries.

Domaine Boyar chief production manager Dimitar Panov told Yonhap News Agency that their wines are very competitive in those markets, with lower prices and relatively higher quality.

In 1970s and 1980s, Bulgaria served as the main food provider for Russia and was the second largest exporter of wine after France. However after the Cold War, the country lost its trading partner, which resulted in fall of wine industry in the country.

Panov told the website that his company is now trying to breaking into the populous Asian markets where people are getting familiar with European wines but not aware of the taste of Bulgarian wines.

The company has already shipped around ten containers of wine to Singapore and plans to increase the amount in future.

Panov said they know Asia is a big market.

"We will focus on China, Japan, and Korea as well," he added.
