Mega Food Parks: Thirty mega food parks envisaged in the Eleventh Plan were approved by the government in three phases. In the first phase, ten projects were approved on September 11, 2008; in the second phase five projects were approved on November 18, 2010, and in the third phase, 15 projects were approved on October 25, 2011. 

Cold Chains: The FPI ministry had accorded approval for ten integrated cold chain projects in the year 2008-09 and another 39 projects in 2011-12. Out of the 49 projects, 38 were sanctioned. For the remaining 11 projects, Expression of Interest (EOI) statements have been issued afresh. Further, on March 20, 2012, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) granted approval for taking up thirty additional projects with a grant-in-aid of Rs 231 crore. Out of these 30 projects, the ministry has already approved 18 projects in the current year (2012-13). 

Modernisation of Abattoirs: The FPI Ministry has sanctioned ten abattoir modernisation projects. Out of these, two projects have been completed. The first installment has been released for the remaining eight projects. 

This information was given by Dr Charan Das Mahant, minister of state for food processing industries, in a written reply to a query in the Lok Sabha today.
