Chilean exports on the rebound after 2013 frosts

The Chilean exports during 2014/15 reached a total volume of 754,442 tons (95.4 million boxes), this volume is higher than the presented during 2013/14, showing a recovery after the damage caused by the frosts of 2013. Nevertheless, this volume is lower than the maximum of 860.390 tons reached during 2012/13. The main destination of the shipments was North America, which concentrated 49% of the total exports, increasing its market share compared to 2013/14. It was followed by Far East, the main market for Chilean Red Globe, with a 23%, maintaining a similar market share than the last season. The third place was for Europe with a share of 17%, showing a downward trend during the last four seasons.

The Chilean exports for these fruits reached a volume of 181.076 tons during 2014/15, a 99% higher than last season, this occurred thanks to the recovery of the production after the frosts of 2013, which caused a significant damage to the exports.

Nevertheless, the volume sent during the 2014/15 season are still below the volume sent during 2012/13 (211,934 tons). For Plums, the exports reached 98,283 tons, with an increase of 109% compared to 2013/14, the main destinations were the US market with a share of 27%, followed by Far East with a 26% and Latin America with 25%. In Nectarines, the total shipments reached 56,773 tons, showing a growth of 126%, the US were the main destination with a share of 42%, followed by Latin America and Far East with a share of 22% and 18%, respectively. Finally, 27,920 tons of Peaches were shipped from Chile, with a growth of 52%, the US received 57% of the total volume, being the most important market, followed by Latin America with a share of 38%.
