Despite the recent adoption of a food safety law requiring food manufacturers to identify food additives and GMOs used in products, these NGOs suggest that a lack of enforcement mechanisms and penalties prevents the law from effectively discouraging violations. Proposals to toughen the existing law would need to be agreed upon by all countries in the Customs Union in order to be included in the law.
Russia’s food additive use regulations are included in the International Food Additive Database as part of the Customs Union.
