Germany dominating cucumber market, more so than The Netherlands

Also in Berlin, cucumber prices rose, but only from Thursday onward. This was based on a supply situation that was insufficient for the market needs, caused by actions of the food retail trade and limited sales. Prices in Munich also climbed. There, an influx of Greek produce is also expected in the coming days. Central European products generated only a lukewarm interest in in Cologne, which resulted in the prices dropping, as sales would have remained insufficient any other way.

Apples
With its many varieties, Germany shaped events in the apple section: Elstar, Boskoop and Jonagold were the most popular. A nice level of demand could be satisfied easily. Traders were rarely forced to modify their prices.

Pears
As usual, Italian Abate Fetel, Santa Maria and Williams Christ prevailed. Availability was sufficient to meet demand; the demand was there as expected, but a little too weak.

Table grapes
Italy and Turkey determined the market. Supply was enough for the demand. In some places, customers were more active than in the previous week. Prices developed unevenly.

Peaches and nectarines
Availability was limited. As demand decreased, prices often remained at their current level. On several occasions they even rose a little.

Plums
Supply apparently was limited, but sufficient to satisfy the demand, which developed nicely. Most often, prices remained constant. They also rose locally.

Lemons
Turkish batches marked events. Availability was sufficient to meet the demand. Prices tended to decline on several occasions, where demand was too limited.

Bananas
The markets were well supplied. In general, the slightly colder weather gave more momentum to the demand. Prices increased slightly for the entire product range and for the second and third brands only.

Cauliflower
There were almost exclusively domestic products on offer. Supply has not changed significantly. Sales usually came about quite quickly because of the cooler weather, which increased demand.

Lettuce
In the case of ice lettuce, Germany was more dominating than the Netherlands. With a good demand, prices often remained at their current level. Local and Belgian lettuce generated a constant attention.

Cucumbers
Germany prevailed over the Netherlands here. Spanish lots overtook the Belgian supplies and played an increasingly important role. However, their quality was not completely convincing.

Tomatoes
Availability was limited, and at times this product even quite sold out rapidly. Attractive pricing followed, which in turn affected demand. So then, sales slowed down and some marketers were left with stocks.

Sweet peppers
The Netherlands dominated events, more so than Spain. Supply was sufficient to meet demand, which had picked up here and there. Prices mostly went down a bit in the face of too little demand.
