Plant protein ingredients producer Parabel USA has finalised a distribution agreement with Hawkins’…Plant protein ingredients producer Parabel USA has finalised a distribution agreement with Hawkins’ subsidiary Stauber USA to commercialise its Lentein plant protein in the market.
Parabel USA grows water lentils in open hydroponic systems, which are later processed into Lentein plant protein, as well as other plant-based ingredients.
Parabel USA CEO Anthony Tiarks said: “The crop needs sunlight, water, and flat land, which is all in abundance here in Florida.
“The crop doubles its biomass in 24-36 hours and is harvested every day, which makes it a sustainable choice for companies looking for alternative plant protein to fortify their snacks, beverages and foods.”
The company noted that it is the first time that the crop has been produced commercially.
Florida location is said to be an ideal choice for the company, which had facilities in South America, Africa and Asia for several years.
Parabel USA is also planning to open its new facility next year in order to increase its production of plant proteins from 300t to 3,000t per year.
Furthermore, the company is set to open several more facilities over the next few years in order to meet the global demand.
In addition to offering plant-based and Non-GMO ingredients through its hydroponic system, Parabel USA is engaged in promoting environmental benefits and global food security.
Stauber USA president Dan Stauber said: “We believe that Parabel’s Lentein plant protein will add an interesting angle to our existing portfolio.
“In today’s environment novel plant protein sources are in high demand and our customers are always looking for innovative ways to grow their businesses.”
