On December 18, the European Commission issued Regulations (EU), 2018/2019. According to Regulations (EU) 2016/2031, Articles 42 and 73, a provisional list of imported plants, plant products or other items at high risk and a list of plants without phytosanitary certificates were established. Momordica L., CN No. ex 0709 99 90, were included in the list of high-risk plant products. The provisional list provides that momordica charantia from a third country or region where Thrips palmi Karny is known to occur and where effective control measures are lacking, is a high-risk plant and is prohibited from entering the European Union before risk assessment.

This regulation shall come into force on the twentieth day after its publication in the Official Gazette of the European Union. It will apply on December 14, 2019.
