According to the Russian official newspaper, on January 29, Prime Minister Medvedev of the Russian Federation signed a government order amending the contents of dairy labels. If dairy products do not contain milk fat substitutes, the new law requires dairy manufacturers to label "no plant fat substitutes" and to differentiate such products from other dairy products in retail sales. The new regulations will come into force on July 1, 2019.

The purpose of the new regulations is to protect the legitimate rights of consumers and support SMEs that produce natural products.
