Terrepure Spirits, a UK-based subsidiary of the South Carolina-based Terressentia, has made TerrePURE, a technology that cleans and ages the distilled spirits, available in the UK.

TerrePURE uses an ultra-sonic energy driven oxidation and filtration process that refines grain neutral spirits more effectively than traditional multiple distillation, filtering methods or aging in oak barrels. It transforms an ordinary spirit into ultra-premium and purified spirit within few hours, claims the company.

The sound waves and oxidation reduces the hangover causing congeners such as methyl and amyl alcohols, propanol and isobutanol, and converts fatty acids into esters to enhance mouth feel of the spirit, claims the company.

Terrepure Spirits commercial director Alasdair Coutts-Wood told Drinks International that the machines finish reactions that fail to be completed during the distillation process and avoids the need for filtration, re-distillation or barrel aging.

The system also has the capability of reducing the aging process in oak barrels from six years to six months.

Coutts-Wood said TerrePURE can bond compounds at a molecular level, making for better blended flavors and colors.
