BCIC to organise day-long seminar, 'Demystifying FSSA', on October 12

Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC), under the aegis of its Agro & Food Processing Expert Committee, is organising a day-long seminar titled ‘Demystifying the Food Safety Standards Act (FSSA), 2006’ at Coronet Hall, Hotel Le Meridian, Bengaluru, on October 12, 2012.

The seminar is intended to enlighten participants in the backdrop of the new FSSA and Food Safety and Standards Regulations (FSSR), 2011, coming into force. In this endeavour, several industry and government experts would be sharing their thought processes with the participants as there still lies a lot of confusion on the certain clauses of the new Act, which needs urgent clarifications, said T S Sampath Kumar, secretary general, BCIC.

A food industry perspective on FSSA will be provided by Chitranjan Dar, chief executive officer, ITC Foods. The state government officials would also be present to give an outlook from the regulatory perspective.

The technical session would be chaired by M Ganesan, chairman, Agri & Food Processing Expert Committee, BCIC, and a presentation on new food regulations including licensing – changes, challenges and the way ahead will be provided by K K Joshi, manager, regulatory affairs, ITC Foods.

Ashwin Bhadri, head (business relations), Equinox Labs, will address on implications of FSSA and FSSR on the food and beverage industry. He will also give an insight on understanding the Schedule IV guidelines of FSSR, 2011.

The topic of labelling general requirements for pre-packaged foods is expected to be provided by Udai K Saxena, FSSAI Grade III accessor/evaluator/consultant/ inspector, and member, FSSAI committee of experts on categorisation of food products and HS Codes.

M Krishnamoorthy, business head (Food), Quality Austria Central Asia Pvt Ltd, will highlight the relevance of social accountability to the FSSA.
