The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Simon Coveney TD welcomed today’s announcement that Burger King has established a new partnership with Kepak Group to supply its restaurants in Ireland and the UK with 100% beef burgers sourced from Irish and UK beef. The new contract will allow Kepak to manufacture burgers in Ballybay for supply to Burger King Restaurants in Ireland and the UK.

In wishing the new partnership between Kepak and Burger King well, Minister Coveney said “Together with Kepak and Burger King, I am delighted to have been able to assist in bringing this partnership to a successful new beginning and I wish the parties well in their new venture together”.

Kepak recently entered into an agreement to acquire the former ABP plant in Ballybay and the Minister welcomed yesterday’s decision of the Competition Authority to grant approval to the acquisition, finding that the transaction does not raise competition concerns in the State.

Referring to ABP, the Minister acknowledged the constructive approach taken by the group in facilitating this acquisition by Kepak, which has allowed for the orderly transition to new owners and the return of this important Burger King contract. Minister Coveney said that this is great news for customers, suppliers and farmers in Ireland and is a particularly important announcement for employment in Ballybay.
