Between Nov. 15, 2007, and Dec. 4, 2008, the Worldwide Shrimp Company of Highland Park, Illinois, allegedly sent the Mexican-caught shrimp to Doran Sea-Pak LLC of Independence, Louisiana. Doran Sea-Pak processed and packaged it, and affixing false US labels of origin, according to district court filings.

Worldwide Shrimp is accused of telling Doran Sea-Pak to label the shrimp as caught in the US, although its officials knew the shrimp was from Mexico. Doran Sea-Pak then would send the shrimp back to the Worldwide Shrimp. or to clients that company had sold it to. The US Department of Commerce and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration investigated the case

Worldwide Shrimp Company sold shrimp throughout the US under four brand names: Shrimp King, Texas Supreme, Black Diamond and Campeche Queen. As of May 23, its website appeared to be inactive, and a Google search failed to turn up a website for Doran Sea-Pak. If convicted of the felonies, each company faces a maximum fine of $500,000.
