The British Nutrition Foundation (BNF), a charity organization that promotes healthy lifestyle choic…The British Nutrition Foundation (BNF), a charity organization that promotes healthy lifestyle choices, along with Seafish, the U.K. government’s organization for promoting and supporting the seafood industry, is introducing a new educational program aiming to teach children and young people about the benefits of eating seafood.
The program centers around the country’s first-ever Healthy Eating Week, from 3 to 7 June starting this year. The program will involve more than 1,650 schools, and reach an estimated 770,000 children.
“It is absolutely vital that children and young people understand the importance of seafood as part of a healthy balanced diet, and by supporting the week we will be helping hundreds of thousands of children across the UK to do just that,” said Karen Galloway, head of marketing at Seafish.
The program will include promotional materials such as posters and stickers, and presentations in the schools.
“The collaboration seeks to engage children of all ages with food and nutrition. For example, there will be opportunities to learn about the nutrients provided by fish, investigate where fish comes from and cook some delicious seafood dishes,” said Roy Ballam, education program manager at the BNF.
