Niall Browne, CEO at Dawn Meats, said: “We are honoured and greatly appreciate the global recognition by McDonald’s and we will continue to challenge one another in developing innovative ideas and solutions with our suppliers and customers.”

McDonald’s selected nine international suppliers out of 600 entries to receive its “2014 Best of Sustainable Supply”. Dawn Meats, which supplies beef products in three markets to McDonald’s in Europe, was named global winner in the Economics category and a finalist in the Water Use category.

“Sustainability is part of our business culture at Dawn Meats, because conserving resources makes environmental and commercial sense. We work hard to reduce emissions, minimise our carbon footprint and conserve resources through sustainable practices across our operations. Supporting knowledge-sharing and implementation of best practice in both animal health and welfare and in grassland management has facilitated a more sustainable supply chain,” Browne added.

Jose Armario, executive vice-president, McDonald’s Global Supply Chain, Development & Franchising, said: “Every year our suppliers focus even more attention on sustainability, applying innovation to make a real difference for the people, communities, animals and environment that touch our supply chain. Many of these innovations can bring about more widespread change in our suppliers’ own industries and in broader society.

“Dawn Meats have been to the forefront in promoting sustainable practices within the McDonald’s beef supply chain and these awards are clear recognition of their leadership and commitment in this area.”
