Spain exported 10% more fruit and veg to the EU up to August

Spanish fresh fruit and vegetable exports to the EU between January and August 2015 grew by 10% compared to the same period of 2014, totalling 8.1 million tonnes and representing 93.5% of the total. Exports to non-EU European countries, including Russia, Norway and Switzerland, fell by 43% to a total of 220,255 tonnes; 2.5% of the total. Exports to third countries outside Europe grew by 23%, to a total of 348,021 tonnes; 4% of the total.

In terms of value, Spanish exports to the EU during the period at hand grew by 17%, to a total of 7.618 million Euro; those to non-EU European countries fell by 38%, down to a total of 244 million, and those going to third countries outside Europe grew by 36%, reaching 311.7 million Euro.

Within the EU, the main destination for Spanish fruit and vegetable exports is Germany, with 1,985 million Euro as of August 2015; 16% more than in the same period in 2014. France, with 1.478 million Euro (+16 %) and the United Kingdom, with 1.141 million Euro (+16%) follow in the ranking.

Within the group of non-EU European countries, the three main destinations are Switzerland, with 145 million Euro (+12%), Norway, with 63 million Euro (-5%) and Belarus, with 9.5 million Euro (-65%).

The main destinations when it comes to non-EU third countries are Brazil, with 63 million Euro (+68%), the United Arab Emirates, with 40 million Euro (+34%) and Algeria, with 39 million Euro (+1%), according to the latest data updated by the Directorate General of Customs of the Tax Agency and processed by FEPEX.
