cool meat labellingEven as the United States comes under fire for its country of origin labeling (COOL) requirements, the Australian government is extending its COOL requirements to cover new classes of meat, two of the Australian government’s department ministers said in a news release.

Legislators responsible for food regulation passed a ruling that cover that country’s existing COOL laws to cover unpackaged beef, sheep and chicken.

Previously the legislation covered most packaged foods and unpackaged fresh and processed fruit, vegetables, seafood and pork, the release said.

The new labeling requirements will come into effect mid–next year
