The New Zealand exporter JP Exports, has been attending Asia Fruit Logistica for seven years and has a track record of success in establishing new relationships with customers at the event. This year was no exception.

Asia is one of JP Exports’ top markets with avocados, cherries and strawberries heading the list of sought-after products. The company also supplies a wide range of vegetables.

Avocados are an important crop for New Zealand—currently its third largest fresh fruit export—with the industry selling a record 7.1 million trays in the 2014-15 avocado season.

“Demand for New Zealand avocados is expanding in south Asia and growing steadily in both Japan and India. One of the benefits of having people on the ground in important growing areas in New Zealand, is that we can supply a variety of sizes to meet consumer requirements in different markets,” says JP Exports General Manager Lesley Shield.

At its Asia Fruit Logistica stand, JP Exports provided avocados samples, along with persimmons, potatoes, carrots and onions and chutneys made from tamarillo, a fruit that flourishes in New Zealand’s growing conditions and is growing in popularity around the world.

JP Exports was founded by Jeffery and Peter Turner, members of one of New Zealand’s pioneering horticultural families with a 100-year legacy of exporting fresh produce around the world. Its sister company, Fresh Direct, is one of New Zealand’s largest wholesalers of fresh produce.
