Greek authorities are tightening controls on the export of fruit and vegetables lacking the necessary documents and taxes, especially of those going to Bulgaria, as inspectors from the Ministry of Finance have found that while cases of smuggling are also registered in trade operations with other countries, most of them take place in operations with Bulgaria.

In this regard, the Commission on Trade and Consumer Protection commented on the risks entailed by the export of fruits and vegetables without the necessary quality certificates.

Companies buying directly from the producers will be required to issue special invoices, accompanied by quality certificates.

Also, to protect labourers in the farms of Greece, a temporary work permit will be required, unless there is already one associated with a residence permit.

Salaries and social security contributions will be recorded. The government expects that these measures will reduce tax evasion and ensure the payment of contributions.
