It's calm in the trade as the greenhouse vegetable season comes to an end. " Peppers, cucumber, aubergines have ended for us. There are only some volumes of domestic tomatoes left," said Jonathan Vandesande of the firm Weiss. "There has been some pressure from Morocco and Spain during the last two weeks from the tomato market, so the Belgian prices had to be adapted, but the trade continues to go well. There are always customers who prefer Belgian."

Calm lettuce market
He indicates that the calm market may be to do with the end of the month. "The export of lettuce is also calm. There is gradually less production in Germany and customers are starting to ask. So far they still have some, due to the warmer temperatures this week."

The prices vary. "On Monday we were talking about 30 cents and on Tuesday it was suddenly 40 cents, but there was less at auction. Today the lettuce price has dropped under 30 cents again." He expects the open ground lettuce to be gone within two weeks. "Then the greenhouse lettuce will be back and I expect the prices to go back up, hopefully, for growers."
