Chilean kiwifruit imports are commanding prices in line with what was expected for this time of year. But the steady market could strengthen in the coming weeks.

“I think the market is pretty average right now,” said Ari Kamberian of Tazza Produce. “Right now we're getting kiwifruit from Chile, and I would say demand for it is also about average.” On August 27, prices for a container of size 23 Hayward kiwifruit from Chile were between $15.00 and $17.00 at the Los Angeles area port of entry. At the Philadelphia area port of entry, prices for a container of size 23 Haywards were in the $14.00 range.

“The market was around $20.00 for a container earlier on,” noted Kamberian. He added that, based on historical prices, the market could get stronger soon. "Based on the time of year, this is when it typically starts to climb.”
