Working with packaging manufacturer Plantic Technologies, Excelline Food Products is using the company’s eco Plastic roll stock to package its premium range of steak and green chilli flautas.

Announcing the launch at the AMI Expo in Dallas recently, Plantic said the packaging was an “ultra-high barrier, environmentally beneficial roll stock, made predominantly from corn starch and using around 40% less energy than conventional polymers”.

The packaging can also help preserve product freshness. “The extremely low oxygen transmission rate of eco Plastic material can deliver significant shelf-life extension to fresh foods, depending on the application,” the company claimed.

Carlos Angulo, CEO of Excelline Foods, said: “The environmental benefits of Plantic eco Plastic, combined with the ability to meet our shelf-life demands, provide a package which truly fits with our high standards and naturally fresh image.”

Tom Black, president of the Americas for Plantic Technologies, added: “Plantic eco Plastic sets a new standard for barrier packaging performance. The cost to operate is very competitive with traditional barrier films and, combined with functional performance, forms the cornerstone of our value proposition. The ability to improve product freshness while at the same time improving the environment is a great outcome for both us and Excelline’s customers.”
