Spar, the DutSparch founded international retail chain which specialises in convenience stores, said today that turnover for 2013 in Spain topped €1.3 billion.

This represents an increase of 4.6% from its €1.24 billion turnover in 2012. Spar has also recorded positive expansion figures in Spain, a real achievement considering the economic climate there at present.

Own-brand goods played a big part in Spar's stelar performance last year. The company has an assortment of 1,730 items in its own-brand catalogue and sales in the category rose 9.6% in 2013.

54 new Spar stores opened in 2013, bringing the total count up to 1,133.
