One of Europe's leading privately owned food processors, ABP Food Group has expanded its operations in Poland with a deal to buy a second production facility in Klosowice, in the west of the country.

ABP's other plant in Poland is located just 30 kilometers away in the town of Pniewy, which was purchased in 2011. When both plans are finally at full operations, they will employ over 250 people between them.

The new facility will increase its production capacity in Poland to over 100,000 animals a year.

In a statement, CEO of ABP Food Group Paul Finnerty said: "After Ireland, Poland is the second largest beef exporter to the European market and this expansion will allow ABP Poland to further solidify our position as a sustainable supplier of high quality Polish beef products to customers throughout Europe.

"When we entered the Polish market we intended to build a business of significant scale, and this acquisition is a continuation of that strategy."

Production is expected to start in February of this year.

ABP processes 1 million cattle each year across its facilities in Ireland, UK and Poland, and is the largest processor of beef in Ireland and the UK. It employs 8,000 people in its 40 facilities worldwide.
