Tesco have suffered a slump on its Irish market share in the 12 weeks to November 10. The supermarket giant has witnessed a 6% drop in sales leading to a 1.5% decline in its share of the multibillion Irish grocery market.

Kantar Worldpanel have revealed that Tesco are currently being outperformed by competitors Dunnes Stores, Lidl and Aldi.

While Tesco still has the largest market share, Irish supermarket Dunnes Stores are rapidly catching up, growing its share to 23.6%, while Tesco's fell to 26.5%.

German supermarket giants Lidle and Aldi increased their respective market shares to 7.4% and 6.9% during the 12 weeks to November 10.

"Discounter Aldi continues to set the pace. However, this is the first time its year-on-year growth has dipped below 20% since April 2012, highlighting stiff competition in the grocery market." Kantar Worldpanel commercial director, David Berry, said to The Irish Times.
