The start of the cherry season has many European cherry growers appreciating Janny MT storage solutions. For growers who have yet to try one of the installations, now's the best time to take advantage of better storage options.

“I advise my colleagues to use the Janny MT modules because it enables one to store cherries in June in order to market them in July, when demand is stronger,” remarked a French cherry grower, Indre, who uses the modules to extend his marketing season. “I get to do three preservation cycles during the cherry season, and I can now have very good quality cherries through August 15 or 20.”

Growers can also avoid the slow parts of the season when there is an abundance of product from competitors. If one has to sell fruit as it's harvested, returns will suffer. In this respect, growers without such a robust storage system are at a disadvantage.

“Since 2014, the Janny equipment has brought us a real economic advantage,” said Torleiv Naa Helle of PL Naa Fruktlager SA in Norway. “After the peak of production, we are the only ones on the market with cherries or plums. Now we can keep our cherries up to 25 days, whereas before we could not store them for over a week.”

For best results, Janny MT recommends growers do not store fruit after heavy rain or hail, and, in general, fruit should be stored in its optimal state. Gas levels should be monitored regularly, and after bringing the temperature down to two degrees celsius, a stable temperature should be maintained throughout storage.
