Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Willy Bett said technical cooperation with the Netherlands will be revived to boost the cultivation of improved potato varieties.
“We are reviewing Kenya-Dutch agricultural collaboration to cover areas like dairy industry, fisheries and potato farming. A memorandum of understanding will be signed soon to realize those objectives,” Bett said.
He spoke in Nairobi when he received a delegation from the Netherlands led by the country’s Minister for Agriculture, Martijn Van Dam.
Kenya-Dutch agriculture cooperation has been in existence since the East African nation gained independence. It has focused on capacity building and technology transfer in areas like dairy farming, horticulture and fisheries.
The CS revealed that Kenya will soon introduce 21 improved potato varieties from the Netherlands.
The Dutch Minister said that Dutch government will provide technical assistance to Kenya’s ministry of agriculture to boost value addition in potatoes.
