The drop was not as great in terms of value (-0.9%), mainly due to the increase in the average price of these products (+2.7%), which stood at 1.46 €/kg.
According to the data revealed in the "Annual Report on Food Consumption 2017", households allocate 9.10% of their budget for the purchase of food and drinks.
As for the favourite fruits among consumers, first in the ranking are oranges, followed by bananas and apples. These three fruits account for the largest volume, and although they have recorded a slight decrease, they still represent 19.3%, 12.5% and 10.6%, respectively. Also noteworthy was the growth of cherries and plums, both in terms of volume and value. Meanwhile, melons, strawberries and mandarins saw a drop in demand.
Castile-Leon, the Basque Country, Navarre and Galicia are the autonomous regions that consume the most fruit, while La Rioja, Valencia and the Balearic Islands are at the bottom of the ranking.
