Vegetables are being grown for the supermarkets and are routinely exported to Japan.
Director General of Horticulture Suwandi: "This is in line with the directive of the Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman to be an inspiration for young farmers to develop certain types of commodities, with quality according to market demand.
There are various types of special vegetables and special market segments. Some types of vegetables that are not normally cultivated by farmers in general. The cultivation process also pays attention to the environment, and empowers the surrounding community. The results are economically more profitable.”
According to en.netralnews.com, Japanese vegetables are grown as well: not only nashubi, kyuri, mizuna, shironegi, komatsuna and asparagus, but butternut pumpkin and other crops as well. Some 65 percent are for the supermarkets in Bandung, Jakarta, Surabaya and Bali and some are exported to Japan.
