Fiji ginger is getting recognition in the international market, says Minister for Agriculture, Inia Seruiratu, at a session in Talanoa. He sees the trend growing further and hopes to increase production in the country.

He said the government was encouraging farmers to produce this product that was a fast growing export commodity in order to meet demands around the globe.

"Ginger syrup is being marketed into Australia where it is currently selling like hot cakes, including ginger juice and puree," Mr Seruiratu said.

The Minister went on to discuss their focus on increasing the countries value added sector which he states they had neglected before, stating: "Previously we were focusing too much on production and neglected the whole value chain - things like transportation, packaging, cold strage systems and most importantly the market and linking producers to the market"
