Guava is India's fourth most important fruit after mangoes, bananas, and citrus. However, despite its large production, it is a product that is mainly consumed in India. Currently, "India only exports 0.05% of its guava production to the USA, some countries of the European Union, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Jordan," said Ms. Usha Chavan, the manager of Umed Exports.

Consumption of this fruit has been increasing in the last 8 years, during which time India has started to seriously export it. The countries that consume this product the most are: the US (35.5% of total consumption), Malaysia (15.2%) and Saudi Arabia (15%). In addition, this product's price isn't high, said Ms. Chavan, and it only increased by 3% last year.

India is not the only exporter of guava. Thailand, Brazil, Bangladesh, Mexico, and Peru are its main competitors. It is a product that has had a great reception and is available for most of the year, which allows it to have a very stable position in the international markets.
