"Thanks to good weather conditions throughout the season, yields of lychees across the country have increase by 20% to 30% compared to last year. The overall quality is good and the price is slightly lower than that of last year," say Ms Chen from Fuyi Food.

"Fuyi purchases quality lychees from all the major production areas in China and exports them to countries including the U.S., Canada, and the EU market. Our export season started at the end of April and will last until the middle of July. Even though total lychee output has grown by 20% to 30% this year across China, those lychees meeting export standards to North America and Europe have increased less. I expect total export numbers to go up by 10%."

"Pricewise, differences in export prices at various periods are inevitable. At the beginning of the season, the price was almost the same as last year, but since the middle of May, the export price has gone down by 10% to 20% compared to the same time last year. Starting from June, the price has dropped even further."

"The lychees we export partially come from our own plantation in Hainan, where we can exert strict technical control over the whole production process. Over recent years, Chinese lychees have become more popular in the oversea markets and have been able to gain a stable market share. The main reason behind this is that compared to those from other countries, our lychees are competitively priced and have good quality."
