At the beginning of the season the retail price per kilo decreased by 0.2 yuan, 20% lower than last year. Currently, the price is stable, " said Ms. Li, a local grower from Heze, Shandong.
"The overall yields in the country have increased by 10%, which is caused by two factors. Firstly, the stable weather conditions last year helped the growth of melons. Also, encouraged by the good market performance of watermelons from the previous years, farmers extended their cultivation areas, especially at the Shouguang Vegetable Base."
