"Shandong is one of the major production areas of watermelons in China. The new harvest season of the melons started two weeks ago and will last till the middle of July. At the beginning of the season the retail price per kilo decreased by 0.2 yuan, 20% lower than last year. Currently, the price is stable, " said Ms. Li, a local grower from Heze, Shandong.

"The overall yields in the country have increased by 10%, which is caused by two factors. Firstly, the stable weather conditions last year helped the growth of melons. Also, encouraged by the good market performance of watermelons from the previous years, farmers extended their cultivation areas, especially at the Shouguang Vegetable Base."

"Watermelons from Heze are known for their beautiful shape and bright green skin. Currently, our melons are sold to fruit wholesale markets, residential areas and factories around the area through wholesale and retail channels. Right now it's the peak season for melons from Heze when the supply is ample. We welcome purchasers and wholesalers to our farms. "
