Egypt: 2.43 million tonnes of fresh produce exported so far this season
The latest report issued by the Central Administration for Agricultural Quarantine of the Egyptian…The latest report issued by the Central Administration for Agricultural Quarantine of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture revealed that agricultural product exports to countries in Europe and the Gulf are on the rise, with a total of 2 million 435 thousand tonnes of products exported so far since the start of the campaign.
This figure includes 231 thousand tonnes of potatoes, 1 million 140 thousand tonnes of citrus fruits, 43 thousand tonnes of strawberries, 577 thousand tonnes of onions, 235 tonnes of grapes and 444 thousand tonnes of vegetables.
Dr Ibrahim Imbabi, chairman of the Central Administration of Quarantine, said in a statement for "The Seventh Day" that strict control measures are in place for all agricultural shipments going to overseas markets, especially those of citrus fruits, for fear of the fruit fly, stressing that the products meet all Egyptian requirements and specifications and are devoid of any diseases.
Mr Imbabi assured that this season will be marked by a notable increase in the volume of exports abroad, also as a result of the opening of a number of new foreign markets.
