Aldi has been inundated with complaints from disgusted customers who claim they've bought bug-infested broccoli, some of which has been grown in Cornwall. Indignant shoppers shared photographs they claim show caterpillars clinging to the vegetables, or wriggling on their plates.

Some of the insect larvae can be seen poking their heads out of the florets, while others cling on, boiled alive.

One customer typed: "Literally just found the same thing...that I bought from my local store in Norwich!!! Not a happy bunny....gone to cut up my broccoli I bought form my local store for our roast dinner...only to find not one...but a load of caterpillars crawling around all over it. Surely they should not be on there, especially as it’s gone through packaging!!!"

Plymouthherald.co.uk reported that other shoppers have vowed never to buy broccoli again from Aldi.
