Over 50 Pigs Killed in Russian African Swine Fever Outbreaks

According to follow-up report no. 9 sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the outbreaks took place on 15 July and 17 July.

On 16, 17 and 18 July, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were conducted. All tests resulted positive, confirming the presence of the ASF virus.

In the first outbreak, a total of 19834 pigs were found susceptible, out of which 82 cases were reported. Out of the 82 affected pigs, 55 were reportedly found dead.

In the second outbreak, which occurred on 17 July, 19655 animals showed signs of susceptibility, out of which five cases and deaths were reported.

In both cases, no animals were destroyed and/or destroyed.

Several control measures have been applied in order to contain the situation.

The source of the outbreaks remain inconclusive.
