US-based establishment Maya Overseas Foods is recalling close to 8000 lbs of Cashew Split as it may have been contaminated with salmonella, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).The products associated with the recall include 7oz, 14oz, 28oz and 5 lbs Maya brand Cashew Split with UPC codes 020843230389, 020843230716, 020843230327 and 020843230303, respectively.
These products were distributed to retailers and restaurants across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Florida between 18 February through 20 March 2015.
The recall has been initiated after salmonella was found in the bulk Cashew Split during a routine FDA sampling.
The company has ceased the production and distribution of the product as FDA and the supplier continue their investigation to find the cause for the problem.
Consumption of the products contaminated with salmonella may cause fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. No illnesses have been reported associated with the consumption of the recalled products.
Consumers who have bought the recalled product are advised not to consume and instead return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
