The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department in Hong Kong has imposed a ban on the import of sandwiches from Hung Rui Chen in Taiwan.This comes after the Centre for Health Protection reported multiple outbreaks of food poisoning cases associated with the consumption of Taiwan sandwiches.
The ban on the import into and sale within Hong Kong covers all batches and flavors of sandwiches of the brand wherever they are produced.
CFS is currently working to trace the sources and distribution of the affected product and is urging people not to consume the affected products.
The regulator will also notify the Taiwanese authorities and the local trade, in addition to taking appropriate action to safeguard food safety and public health.
Commenting on the ban, CFS spokesman said: "The trade was also reminded to stop selling or using the affected product.
"Follow-up investigations by the Centre and records of the importers indicate that the 'Hung Rui Chen' (Horng Ryen Jen) sandwiches involved in the suspected food poisoning cases have been imported from Taiwan."
