The price of bananas on the domestic market has recently been on the rise. Bananas from Brazil already sell for more than 4 yuan [0.58 USD] per 0.5 kg in Dalian markets. The soaring price of bananas attracts the attention of importers. They see business opportunities as the import market gradually takes a leading role. However, the import market is not stable.

The main supply of imported bananas on the market in Dalian comes from the Philippines and South America. The share of domestic bananas is relatively small. The price of bananas imported from Ecuador, for example, already increased by 20%. A box of Ecuador bananas, weighing 14 kg gross, currently has a wholesale price of 95 yuan [13.69 USD].

People in the industry say that a similar box of bananas from Ecuador only cost 60 yuan [8.65 USD] in June. That low price, however, only lasted for 2-3 weeks, while this price increase began in late September. The price shows an overall increase but fluctuates along the way.
