During the first nine months of 2019, Peruvian fruit and vegetable exports to Russia grew by 17% in value and volume when compared to the same period of 2018. “The country shipped 22,796 tons worth 34.2 million dollars. The main export products were pomegranate (35% share), fresh grapes (18%), and avocados (18%)," according to the Fresh Fruit commercial intelligence agency.

According to data from this source, up until September 2019, 19% of Peruvian pomegranate exports were destined for Russia, making it the second most relevant market for this fruit. Peru shipped 7,275 tons of pomegranate to Russia for a value of 12 million euro. Pomegranate shipments to Russia increased by 34% in volume and 10% in value over the same period of last year. “The companies that made the most shipments are Exportadora Fruticola del Sur (with 20% participation), Agrovictoria (15%), and Corporacion Agrolatina (13%),” they stated.

Meanwhile, grape exports to the Russian market in the first nine months of this year increased by 31% in value and 37% in volume, amounting to 6.5 million dollars and 3,894 tons. Fresh Fruit noted that Russia is the second-largest importer of fresh grapes in the world and has a growing demand for Peruvian products. In this sector, the main exporters were Agricola San Jose (with 11% participation) and Exportadora Safco Peru (9%).

Finally, avocado shipments increased by 101% in value and 103% in volume. Peru shipped 3,347 tons of avocado worth 6.3 million dollars to Russia in the aforementioned period. The leading avocado exporting companies in the period were Agrocosta Peru (17% share), Sterling Peru (15%), and Agroindustrias Checcobamba (13%).
