De facto opening of Chinese market to Spanish table grapes
The head of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and Chinese president Xi Jinping have presided ov…The head of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and Chinese president Xi Jinping have presided over the signing of several bilateral agreements, including one that will facilitate the export of Spanish table grapes to the Asian country.
Xi Jinping is the first Chinese president to make an official visit to Spain in the past 13 years. Consequently, the Spanish Government aims to take advantage of it in order to strengthen the bilateral relations in all areas.
The signing of a series of agreements, documents and memoranda is in the schedule, including two agricultural protocols, one for table grapes and the other for pork.
The first sets the phytosanitary requirements for the export of table grapes from Spain to China, and the Government stresses that this entails a de facto opening of this country's market to the product.
The Government does not rule out a visit of Sánchez to Beijing, or the country's participation in a summit of the so-called New Silk Road (One Belt, One Road), promoted by the Chinese authorities.
This plan aims to boost business relations and infrastructures linking China with other countries in Asia, as well as with Europe and Africa.
