The Spanish import of fresh fruit and vegetables up until November 2018 exceeded 3 million tons worth 2,500 million Euro, which is 8% more in terms of volume and 9% more in terms of value than in the same period of 2017, according to the latest data updated by the General Directorate of Customs.

The import of vegetables in the first eleven months of the year stood at 1.3 million tons (9% more than in the same period of 2017) worth 701 million Euro (+ 0.2%). The most noteworthy products are potatoes, with 725,108 tons (+7.6%) and 170.8 million Euro (-15%) and green beans, with 131,291 tons (+26%) and 154.4 million Euro (+13%).

Fruit imports grew by 7.6% in terms of volume, totaling 1.7 million tons, and by 12.5% ​​in terms of value, standing at 1,805 million Euro. The most remarkable increases are those of bananas, with 334,657 tons (+18%) and 175 million Euro (+17.5%), pineapples, with 155,908 tons (+6.5%) or avocados, with 123,417 tons (+34%).

In November, imports grew at a faster rate, with an increase of 12% in terms of volume and 13% in terms of value, reaching 288,353 tons and 232 million Euro. Worthy of note are the increases of green beans, with 24,886 tons (203% more than in November 2017), tomatoes, with 14,525 tons (+21%), onions, with 68.81 tons (+34%) or peppers, with 4,866 tons (+85%).

When it comes to fruit, increases were recorded by oranges, with 20,107 tons (+20%), pineapples, with 16,258 tons (+9%) and table grapes, with 6,272 tons (+14%). Also outstanding is the increase in the import of raspberries, with 1,844 tons (+37%) and blueberries, with 1,202 tons (+117%), according to data from the Department of Customs and Special Taxes, processed by FEPEX.
