Thanks to a commercial agreement, starting January, the port of Santa Marta will have a new container frequency with northern Europe which will strengthen the export of refrigerated agricultural products, such as bananas, avocados, flowers, gooseberries, gulupas, lemons and bananas, as well as dry cargo like coffee.

This operation will be performed by the German shipping company Hapag Lloyd and the Caribbean Express service.

This frequency will come into operation the first week of January. The ships will arrive on Saturdays at Smitco, a container terminal of the Port of Santa Marta. Hapag Lloyd will have vessels with a capacity of 2,500 TEU, and according to projections, in the first year of operation more than 10 thousand containers will be mobilized in import and export operations.

This important commercial and operative agreement is the result of the growing export dynamics presented by the Colombian national products through the port of Santa Marta, especially the refrigerated ones. Currently, the maritime container frequencies that reach Santa Marta have an occupation that surpasses 90%, and Hapag Lloyd identified an opportunity to captivate new markets in the world, tailored to the needs of customers.
