First shipment of Korean ‘Shingo’ Pears of the season brought in to India

In keeping with its aim to bring the freshest fruits to Indian markets, IG International, India’s largest importer of fresh fruits, has brought in its first shipment of Korean Shingo pears to India.

Korean Shingo pears(called K-Pear) are exported by NH Group, Korea’s biggest National Agricultural Cooperative Federation. These special pears are grown especially in the region called Chungnam of Korea where the most well-known city for the pears because of cultivating in good environment with rich soil and sunshine.

K-pear, a large round-shaped fruit with yellowish-brown color different from western pears, is famous for its exceptional crunchiness and sweetness with mouthwatering juice.

Rich abundance of water in pears can help digestion and are known as good solution for thirst and asthma. They also have pectin which can help to lower cholesterol levels and abundant vitamins act as anti-oxidant which help prevent skin aging.

K-pear is perfect for countless recipes – in salads, on cheese trays, sliced for snacks or desserts, used as a natural sweetener in sauces and marinades, and many more.

IG International imports 13tonnes of K-pear for its first shipment and they will plan to import 100tonnes more of Korean pears in this season for the Indian consumption majorly in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore among other cities.

Speaking about the shipment of K-pear, Gian Chand Arora, Chairman of IG International said, “The Indian customers have become very diverse and willing to try anything new. There are only western pears available in Indian markets at the moment, so it will be great opportunity to introduce K-pear to Indian customers.”

IG International currently imports 32 global varieties of fruits from 22 countries to India, and distributes these to multiple cities through its nation-wide distribution network.

“We have complete confidence in the quality of K-pear imported from Korea and are positive that we can increase the quantity of K-pear imported to India from 100MT to 1000MT in the next 3~5years,” Mr. Tarun, the director of IG International added.
