The product was also found to contain lower levels of vitamin B5 than the standard limit set by China, reported Shanghai Daily.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said that the infant formula was produced by Heinz Australia. It was imported in June 2012 by a firm in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province.

In response, Heinz China noted that the products imported from Australia had not come from authorized channels. The company added that Heinz infant formula products sold in China are imported from the UK and comply with China's standard.

In addition, the watchdog destroyed Lotte's custard pies imported by a company in Liaoning Province, after it was found that the products contained excessive coliform bacteria.

This announcement comes after the watchdog evaluated imported food and cosmetic items such as cheese, noodles, biscuits, formula powder, wine, water and sauce. About 126 items were found to be substandard.
