A manufacturing plant and a research and development (R&D) center will be built in Tuas, while the regional office will be set up in Marina Bay.

The project, which marks Mead Johnson's largest capital spending in its history, is expected to be completed in 2014. The facility is likely to create 180 new jobs.

Mead Johnson chief executive Stephen Golsby said the facility will cater to the local markets and address Asian nutritional needs and preferences, but the impact of the work done at the Mead Johnson Pediatric Nutrition Institute has the potential to be felt beyond Singapore.

According to the company, the demand for Mead Johnson products across Asia has been increasing at a double-digit rate for the past decade, and future prospects remain strong.
