Arla Foods amba is raising its on account price from April 29 by 1.06ppl (pence per litre) as a result, said the company, of improved business performance and increases in global commodity prices which are having a positive impact on the global retail market. The price rise takes the Arla Milk Link standard litre to 30.21 pence.

“The price increase is fully in line with our cooperative principles,” said Ash Amirahmadi, Arla’s vice president with responsibility for UK milk and member services. “Being wholly owned by dairy farmers, including 1,600 in Britain, we are totally focussed on securing the highest possible value for all of our farmers’ milk, through maximising the returns we generate on every litre.”

“The markets continue to indicate a positive outlook over the coming months and we will pass back further benefits to our farmers as soon as we are able.”

“The much needed price rise is welcome news and comes at a critical time for our owners who, in common with other British dairy farmers, are continuing to face huge pressures on farm as a consequence of increasing on farm costs and challenging weather conditions,” said Johnnie Russell, Arla Foods amba board director.

Since the merger of Arla and Milk Link on 1 October 2012, the owners’ milk price has increased by 3.21 pence. This figure includes currency adjustments.
