Major American food chains, globally known for their chicken and beef offerings, overhaul their menus to go completely vegetarian to grab a larger pie of the predominantly non-meat eating customers in Gujarat.

Fast food chains such as Subway, KFC and McDonalds have opened special pure-vegetarian outlets in Ahmedabad and have witnessed an increase in sales, courtesy the high demand in the vegetarian heartland.

American restaurant franchise Subway has opened a Jain counter at its first all-vegetarian outlet in Ahmedabad, after conducting a survey of the region and narrowing down the menu to suit the local taste buds.
