Angus burgersFast food giant McDonald’s is trimming the beef, in a big way. The Angus burgers is being eliminated, at least temporarily.

The premium burgers have been offered by McDonald’s for the past four years. Company officials say that historically high beef prices are behind the menu move.

This week United States Department of Agriculture beef market reports reflected an increase in about twenty-four cents per hundred weight, “cpw.” That means a hundred pounds of beef costs about $204.91.

The news comes not long after the chain dropped its Fruit and Walnut Salad and Chicken Selects offerings, focusing instead on what is available through the Dollar Menu.

The company’s global comparable sales have decreased by about point-six percent, but sales are up in the United States, by about point-seven percent.
