Bio-Label, manufactured by Label Pro Industries in association with Fruit Label Pro, is leading the way in compostable fruit labelling in South Africa.

It is a food-safe label manufactured using material certified “OK compost” by European certification body TÜV Austria. The labels are manufactured from cellulose rendered from wood pulp, processed from sustainably grown timber plantations.

Andries Pretorius, managing director of Label Pro Industries, says: “We vastly underestimated initial estimates of Bio-Label demand in its inaugural year. Our customers are internationally certified exporters who are focused to partner with responsible, innovative suppliers. Our compostable labels are a worthy value-added solution.”

Fruit Label Pro supplies automated and high-speed fruit labelling solutions supported by innovative in-house IT specialists who partner with customers for on-site consultation, product installation and real-time labelling management. Label printers and scanners facilitate traceability and variable information requirements.

He says it has been a busy year of manufacturing and supplying high quality, full colour labels as well as blank labels and tags, not only for agriculture but also the fast-moving consumer goods sector.

Pretorius concludes: “Our products are manufactured in a HACCP environment using good manufacturing practices and ISO colour quality standards. Since 2006 we have grown into a competitive, nationally positioned business who continually strive to achieve our values: to deliver exceptional customer service, manufacture food safe labels, respect one another, value our planet and innovate solutions for a sustainable future.”

The company sees its work as part of the global imperative of ensuring sustainable consumption and production in an attempt to reverse the harm done to the planet, as confirmed by the United Nations’ global goals for sustainable development number.
